Snopes Says: “Argentina Gnome Sighting Was Fake”

Snopes Says: “Argentina Gnome Sighting Was Fake”

Hey, just because Snopes.com says there was no real gnome sighting doesn’t mean they know what they are talking about does it???  Read what the folks at Snopes have to say about the gnome sighting in Argentina.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/odd/gnome.asp

Apparently Snopes contacted “their peeps” in Argentina and were told that they no nothing of this alledged incident and that nobody to their knowledge has been hospitalized for a severe gnome frightening encounter.

Gnome Sighting - Don’t Be Scared!

Gnome Sighting - Don’t Be Scared!

I’ve been waiting for just the right thing to post since I haven’t done so since New Years!  (I know - My BAD)

However, I’m thinking this is worth the wait. People!  There has been an actual gnome sighting - and a video was taken to prove it.  Seriously, check it out!

“>

A TOWN in South America is living in fear after several sightings of a ‘creepy gnome’ that locals claim stalks the streets at night. The midget - which wears a pointy hat and has a distinctive sideways walk - was caught on video last week by a terrified group of youngsters.Teenager Jose Alvarez - who filmed the gnome - yesterday told national newspaper El Tribuno that they caught the creature while larking about in their hometown of General Guemes, in the province of Salta, Argentina. He said: “We were chatting about our last fishing trip. It was one in the morning.“I began to film a bit with my mobile phone while the others were chatting and joking.“Suddenly we heard something - a weird noise as if someone was throwing stones.“We looked to one side and saw that the grass was moving. To begin with we thought it was a dog but when we saw this gnome-like figure begin to emerge we were really afraid.”

Jose added that other locals had come forward to say they had spotted the gnome.

He said: “This is no joke. We are still afraid to go out - just like everyone else in the neighbourhood now.

“One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital.”

 *******************************************************************

Now you tell ME that isn’t a real gnome!  MissGnomer BELIEVES!  The scary part is all the comments about people wanting to chase it down and bash its head in or kick the poor little guy. What a great opportunity it would have been for them to interact with the Wee Folk!  What do you think?

Garden Gnomes With Surprises Inside!

Garden Gnomes With Surprises Inside!

Customs media release

Smuggled reptiles detected in garden gnomes - Tuesday, 19th June 2007

20070619_Smuggled reptiles detected in garden gnomes

Customs and Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service officers have foiled two attempts to smuggle snakes and lizards into Australia through the mail.

In the first attempt, two snakes and three lizards were concealed in the hollow areas of three ceramic
garden gnomes. In the second attempt, five snakes and five lizards were hidden in pottery figures and ornaments.

The first package was detected by a Customs officer checking international mail at Australia Post’s Sydney Gateway Facility at Clyde in Sydney’s western suburbs, on Sunday 10 June. When the package was opened, the officer spotted several snakes moving about.

The package was immediately resealed. A day later, on Monday 11 June, Customs
and AQIS officers at the Sydney Gateway Facility x-rayed a second package which they identified as also containing snakes.

Both packages had been sent from the UK and had been declared as gifts. The first was destined for an address at Blacktown in Sydney’s western suburbs and the second for an address at Wilberforce, north west of Sydney. As a result of the detections, Customs investigators accompanied by AQIS executed warrants and searched houses at Blacktown and Wilberforce.

Customs investigations into the illegal importations are continuing. Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 the maximum penalty for smuggling wildlife is imprisonment for up to 10 years and/or a fine of up to $110,000.

Because of quarantine concerns, AQIS has euthanased the reptiles.

Customs National Manager for Investigations Richard Janeczko said government
authorities treated wildlife smuggling as a serious issue. ‘Apart from the quarantine risk, Australia is committed to international conventions which outlaw the trafficking of endangered and exotic species. Such criminal action is also a cruel practice which frequently results in the deaths of animals in transit.’

MissGnomer’s Commentary:

Personally, I think I would have passed out cold if I had been the customs official who found this little prize!  Cocaine, marijuana maybe - BUT SNAKES?  EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

It’s amazing what people think up so they can get around the law isn’t it!

No Gnomescaping Today :(

No Gnomescaping Today :(

*Sigh*  Another day wasted — no gnomescaping was done.  My contractor (our good friend Max) couldn’t make it today… and said that he would try and come tomorrow.

I am coaxing him over for a Spagetti dinner… the way to Max’s heart is through his stomach.  He’ll be the first one to say that he’d drive 50 miles for a free meal.  So hopefully he gets more of the re-siding project done and I am one step closer to my gnomescaping and new addition of a Fairy Garden.

Time For Spring Gnoming

Spring Gnoming!

It’s a beautiful thing… and the perfect time of year to get outside and help your “wee folk” clean up their gnome gardens.  Yes, we all know that is “their job” and they love doing it – but you know you need the excercise and it helps to promote gnome bonding.

Chores always go quickly when you have someone to help you!

I am completely revamping 1/2 of my backyard and am axious to get started.  That is IF my contractor ever gets here and finishes the residing project he started.  *SIGH*  It’s kind of hard to start planting and such when you know someone is going to go plodding through it all.

Gnoming for my Granddaughter

Gnoming for my Granddaughter

I’m very excited!  My 5 month old Granddaughter is coming tomorrow to visit for Christmas!  She is a real cutie — doesn’t every Grandma say that?

I’ll try and get her started Gnoming early…  LOL.  Don’t think I’ve quite convinced my Step Daughter about gnomes yet — but once she sees her baby become a Believer in the Magical Wee Folk…. she will become a Believer too.

Every year for Christmas I plan on getting her an ornament so that when she is ready to move away from home… she has enough to decorate her own Christmas Tree!

Meet My New Garden Gnome

Meet My New Garden Gnome

Gneville arrived from Virginia today!  It was a long and tiring journey but he made it here safe and sound and all in one piece.

Garden Gnome - Gneville

As you may remember, he lived with my friend Sandy and recently made the long journey to Florida. His arrival has been highly anticipated — and the rest of the Gnomes Fairies and woodland creatures in the santuary have been busy preparing the gardens for his arrival.

Gneville is a very handsome chap indeed. He stands a whopping 21 inches high and the rest of the gnomes had to make him a special house including a grand gnome door. They just put the finishing touches on Gnevilles new home — as you can see — he is quite happy here already:

Roaming Garden Gnome!

Roaming Garden Gnome!

Gneville is ready to come home!

I am so excited!  I just got an email from Sandy that Gneville is ready to take his roaming journey to his new home in Florida!  She sent his finished picture and he looks just great!  I can’t wait to get him and share some photos with everyone.

His eyes are a beautiful blue and he is dressed in a typical green shirt, blue jeans and of course his handsome red pointed hat!  Very soon this gnome will be traveling to Florida to live in my Gnome Sanctuary!

German Heissner Gnome Arrives!

 German Heissner Gnome

Fortunately, my antique Heissner gnome arrived safe and sound today.  I just do NOT understand eBay sellers that do not take proper care in packaging sold items!  Here we have a valuable (yes valuable) German Heissner gnome and he was sparsley wrapped in a thin layer of bubble wrap!  UNBELIEVABLE.

I am very excited about this Gnome.  Some Heissner gnomes can be quite frightening looking!  Many of them have big red lips — EWWWW.  I would pay a cent for one that is ugly.  This little guy looks awesome!

However, the luck of the Wee Folk prevailed because he didn’t suffer any damage.  He was pretty dirty so I had to clean him up by soaking him in some warm soapy water.  He does have a few scratches here and there but that’s because he is old and was displayed outdoors.  He is currently living near one of the birdbaths in my Gnome Sanctuary.

Cute Heissner Gnome

Note the wee Bluebird that’s perched on his foot — singing away to the tune of his flute.  Absolutely precious this one!
